The STAR TREK: DS9 and VOYAGER Characters We Hope to See in PICARD Season 3

Star Trek: Picard’s third and final season is going to feature a much-anticipated reunion of the principal cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. But Picard showrunner Terry Matalas has mentioned on various occasions that the final season will also feature many references to Deep Space Nine and Voyager. Could these references actually be characters from both shows appearing on the show? We think we could see a few secret cameos. Here are some DS9 and Voyager characters that we’d love to see pop up in Picard’s final year.

Captains Janeway and Sisko, from Voyager and Deep Space Nine.

Dax

Jadzia Dax and Ezri Dax from Deep Space Nine.

On Deep Space Nine, we were introduced to Jadzia Dax, played by Terry Farrell, a Starfleet officer who wass a Trill. The Trill were a joined species, meaning a humanoid host (Jadzia) and symbiote being (Dax). The Dax symbiote lived through several hosts, over hundreds of years. On DS9, Jadzia Dax met and married Worf, but died in the show’s sixth season.

In the final year of the series, after Jadzia’s death, they transferred the Dax symbiote to a new host, Ezri (Nicole Boer). As far as we know, Ezri is still out there, and could show up in Picard season three. But maybe by now, Dax could have yet another new host. With Dax’s ex-husband Worf in Picard season three, it might be very interesting for this DS9 character to appear in a whole new form once again, maybe even as a male, throwing the Klingon warrior for a loop.

Admiral Kathryn Janeway

With Jeri Ryan’s Seven of Nine as part of the main cast of Picard, and now an official member of Starfleet, it makes sense that her former commanding officer, Kathryn Janeway, would appear at least once in the series. Janeway did get a namedrop in Picard season two, when Seven mentions that her old mentor from Voyager went to bat for her enlistment in Starfleet. But thanks to Prodigy, we know that she is now Admiral Janeway. So here’s hoping she gets at least one scene with her former Borg office before it’s all said and done.

Miles O’Brien

Miles O'Brien, from Star Trek: TNG and Deep Space Nine.
CBS/Viacom

He began on Star Trek: The Next Generation as the Enterprise transporter chief, essentially a side character for several years. But Miles Edward O’Brien (Colm Meaney) really came into his own as a character on Deep Space Nine. There, he served as Chief operations officer. When DS9 ended, he left for Earth to become an instructor at Starfleet Academy, so it’s entirely possible he could once again run into his old Enterprise crewmates in the third season of Picard. Maybe his daughter Molly is part of Starfleet now, maybe as part of the crew of the Enterprise-F? We’d get a kick out of that.

Tuvok

Tim Russ as the Vulcan Tuvok on Voyager.
CBS/Viacom

Although Captain Janeway was Seven of Nine’s primary mentor on Voyager, she also received a lot of logical guidance from the ship’s Vulcan officer, Tuvok. We don’t really know what became of Tuvok after in the current timeline Picard takes place in. However, it stands to reason he’s probably still in Starfleet in some capacity. On Lower Decks, which takes place several years prior to Picard, Tuvok they promoted to full commander. It would be great to see Tim Russ play this Voyager character one more time in Picard. Especially if he gets to serve with Seven of Nine once more on a different ship.

Jake Sisko

Jake Sisko, played by Cirroc Lofton on Deep Space Nine.
CBS/Viacom

The teenage son of Deep Space Nine’s Captain Sisko, Jake (Cirroc Lofton) didn’t do the usual thing the kids of officers do on these shows, and enlist in Starfleet. Instead, he pursued writing and became a journalist during the Dominion War. It would be cool to see an adult Jake as a now seasoned journalist, covering the events of the Alpha Quadrant that take place in the Picard season three (whatever those events may be). It would also be great to see how Jake dealt with the loss of his father. Ben Sisko ascended to almost godlike status in the Celestial Temple in the DS9 series finale. That’s gotta be tough to process.

Harry Kim

Garret Wang as Ensign Harry Kim on Voyager.
CBS/Viacom

Poor Harry Kim. For seven seasons, he was an ensign aboard Voyager, without a field promotion from Captain Janeway. He should have at least received a promotion to lieutenant junior grade by the end of that series! Well, it’s never too late to do right by Harry. We’d like to see Picard rectify his lack of respect on that show. We think it’s time for Harry Kim, once again played by Garrett Wang, to have earned several promotions by now, as it’s been over two decades. Maybe he’s now Captain Kim? And if he is, it would be cool to see Kim reunite with his old crush from when he was a young man, Seven of Nine.
